Clearly Mad ran a very promining race at Garthorpe on Sunday when finishing a close 2nd in the 2m 4f maiden , he jumped and travelled well and should bre winning before too long .
Leyte Gulf ran another good race at Great Leighs on Thursday evening , Jockey Chris Catlin dropped him out last in the early stages and he settled really well , he got checked twice when he started his run and but for that interference may well have become our 1st flat winner .
Beau Sam won a competitive looking Maiden point to point at Dingley on Sunday ,going away by 4 lengths . This was only his third run and he built well on the promise he had shown on his previous two . He was ridden in the first 2 or 3 all the way by Matt Briggs and jumping exceptionally well and fast for a young horse , took up the running with another fine leap at the last . He was a little green when he hit the front but winning will do his confidence the world of good . He will go under rules next season and if anyone is interested there are a couple of 1/4 shares available .
This was the second winner in the week that we have trained , who is by the up and coming NH sire Samraan (Who stands locally in Leicestershire), all 3 of his progeny that I have seen and dealt with are strong ,long striding individuals with a fine jump , if he gets some good mares he should develop into a useful stallion at a very reasonable price . www.samraan.co.uk for more details .
Surface To Air (also by Samraan) launched our new season with a bang (excuse the puns !) by comfortably winning the prestigious Durham National at Sedgefield on Tuesday evening . For a horse having only his second run over fences he jumped superbly and was given a magnificent ride by Tom Messenger , leading with a good jump two out , he drew away after the last to win by 6 lengths , thanks to his win we are currently 4th in the trainers table ! long may it last !
Saturday's work Details.......
The rotovated gallops came into action today (10/05/2008) for the first time this year and they were riding very well . First lot Eumene worked round the loop and up the left hand side , and led Sultan Of The Sand . We are trying new tactics with SOTS , trying to teach him to settle and relax in a bid to stay 2m over hurdles . We are making significant progress and today was the best he has gone . Eumene is in great order and will go to Great Leighs on Tuesday evening . Just Jove , Surface To Air and Ski Dazzle did a couple of canters up Higgins which is proving to be very useful during this current dry spell . JJ may run at Garthorpe tomorrow whilst STA will be entered for a 3m4f chase at Stratford on 23rd May .
Second lot all worked on the rotovated up the left hand side . The first batch was Picky (Tom M) who led Qualin Des Brosses and Cherokee Star , all three finished on the bridle and went well , QDB is entered at Towcester on Monday , Picky will go to Market Rasen on Sunday 18th and I will look for a 1m 4f maiden on the flat for CS who is impressing me more and more . Moustique De L'Isle then led Pelican Point and Wicked Nice Fella , like the first batch , I was pleased with all three , MDLI is ready as soon as we get some rain , PP will find a Maiden point on the 24th or 25th , ground permitting and WNF will run on the 17th or 18th at either Uttoxeter or Market Rasen respectively . Finally this batch was concluded by Thistlecraft and Sparrow Hills who did a 1/2 speed together and seem to be in good form.
Third lot we schooled St Pancras (before his run tomorrow at Uttoxeter) and Rainbow Tree and Clearly Mad who may both run at Garthorpe , also tomorrow . St P seem very well in himself and should run well .
Fourth lot saw 3 French youngsters , Marie De Laufon , Romeo Du Dollar and L'Elderado canter round the square and then up the left hand side , the are progressing very nicely
