The Gallops We are justifiably proud of the training facilities we have here at North Lodge and are lucky to have such marvelous undulating terrain to work with. The main grass gallop is 11 furlongs with a long gradual incline for the final 5 furlongs, a new 9 furlong grass gallop with a 2 furlong chute, was drilled in 2002 and will be ready for regular use in the autumn of 2003. A wood fibre "all weather" of 6 furlongs was laid spring 2003, and was extended to One Mile summer 2004, this is proving invaluable when the grass needs a rest. We also have our two rotovated gallops which run inside the main grass gallops, and ride really well in the spring and autumn whilst the grass is too firm. Teaching horses to jump is obviously of vital importance and here at North Lodge we have a full range of schooling facilities which includes 6 sets of hurdles (3 small , 3 full size) and 5 steeplechase fences including an open ditch. We have also recently purchased 2 portable hurdles which can be placed on the All weather gallop so that we can school horses when the grass is too firm. A sand and rubber 45m x 25m outdoor arena was completed in May 2007 , this facility is incredibly useful for teaching the youngsters to jump and will prove to be an invaluable asset to the yard.
